This chronological survey of American Literature covers 
major works of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry from the Puritan Era to 
Twentieth-Century Literature. Discussion focuses on the relationship 
between writing trends and values in society. Writing skills are reviewed 
and practiced as students compose several essays with distinct purposes of 
writing. Several major novels are analyzed, including *The Scarlett Letter, 
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Great Gatsby*, and *Night*. Students 
also further develop vocabulary skills.
