this
prerequisite

be

a

be

the
guidance

This
chronological
survey
of
American
literature
covers
major
and
minor
works
of
fiction,
non‐fiction,
drama
and
poetry
from
the
Puritan
era
to
the
Twentieth‐Century.
Several
major
novels
will
also
be
studied
including
The Scarlet Letter, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and
The Grapes of Wrath. Discussion
will
focus
on
writing
trends
and
societal
influence
on
those
writing
trends.
The
course
will
cover
more
material
more
quickly
than
English
11.
The
curriculum
includes
writing
literary
analysis
papers
originating
from
works
studied,
persuasive
papers
and
a
multi‐genre
project.
The
course
also
includes
vocabulary
work.
Motivated,
self‐directed
students
who
feel
they
would
like
to
take
a
more
active
role
in
their
learning
and
are
capable
of
additional
challenge
are
encouraged
to
enroll.
Three
college
credits
(ENGL 238)
will
be
offered
through
William
Penn
University,
but
the
student
must
complete
the
entire
year
of
College
American
Literature.
